Falkland Street Passive House Retrofit

Habit Studio, a women-led architecture firm located in Halifax, is undertaking the first Passive House retrofit in Nova Scotia. The project involves the conversion of a two-storey 1850s home into office space for the Habit Studio team.

Retrofitting existing buildings is essential to achieving the provincial target of net-zero emissions by 2050 and Halifax’s decarbonization goals set out in the HalifACT climate action plan. The Falkland demonstration project will improve performance of the building enclosures through insulation, high performance windows and doors and airtightness and will upgrade the mechanical systems with high efficiency ventilation and heat pumps.

This talk will share on the motivations for the project and provide the technical details which are modeled to achieve an 88% reduction in GHGs and heating reduction of 92%.
