Implications of Code Changes for Alterations to Existing Buildings: Industry Engagement and Next Steps

The recently released NBC and NECB 2025 include new energy efficiency requirements for Alterations to Existing Buildings. BTZx invites local industry stakeholders to join an information and engagement session to learn about the new requirements and discuss implications for the design and construction industry in Nova Scotia.

Participants will review how these code changes are being interpreted and applied across jurisdictions, discuss implementation challenges and opportunities, and share on-the-ground experience. Through facilitated discussion, attendees will work collaboratively to identify priority next steps, areas requiring additional clarity or guidance, and the tools, resources, and supports that would be most helpful to enable consistent and effective adoption.

What to Expect:

  • Overview of recent code changes related to energy performance requirements for Alterations to Existing Buildings
  • Summary of key findings from the jurisdictional scan and technical review
  • Peer-to-peer discussion on implementation considerations and impacts
  • Collaborative identification of next steps, guidance needs, and helpful resources
